REBUILD #43 | FINISHES | Focus
Starting something new usually comes with enthusiasm. Finishing it requires something different: focus, discipline, and commitment.
In business, unfinished work is rarely caused by a lack of ideas. More often, attention shifts. A new opportunity appears. Priorities change. Problems make the original objective harder to reach. What began with clarity slowly loses momentum.
That is why FINISHES is an important part of The Strategic Master Builder™ framework.
Finishes are not simply about reaching the end of a project. They are about the quality, discipline, and follow-through demonstrated in getting there. A strong finish begins long before the final step.
What Does Finished Look Like?
Before committing people, time, capital, and resources to a new initiative, leadership should be able to answer a fundamental question: What does finished look like?
A clearly defined outcome gives people something to build toward. It establishes expectations, provides a reference point when circumstances change, and makes it easier to distinguish necessary adjustments from distractions.
It also creates accountability.
When the destination is unclear, almost any result can be called progress. When the intended finish is clearly defined, the organization can measure whether it is actually moving toward what it set out to build.
The Difficult Middle
The difficult middle is where that commitment gets tested.
Good builders understand this. They expect complications. They adjust when necessary. But they don’t confuse changing the plan with abandoning the objective.
The Lesson from REBUILD #43
Don’t measure a project only by how well it begins. Measure it by whether the organization has the focus and discipline to carry the original intent through to completion.
Before starting the next initiative, define the finish. Then build toward it.
Build. Rebuild. Build Better.
